Varun gandhi to be kept off Maharashtra BJP campaign

Fearing a Muslim consolidation in favour of rival Congress-NCP alliance, the BJP leadership has decided to keep its controversial MP, Varun Gandhi off the election campaign for Maharashtra state assembly.

The move marks a reversal from 2004, when Varun was a "star" campaigner in the state polls, having addressed nearly as many rallies as top state leaders, the late Pramod Mahajan and Gopinath Munde.
